Ok, I have two accounts. One account was or still is (that's not yet confirmed)under ownership by the other. We have four people, two from each company telling us two different things. Now, we have conflicting stories as to who is the acutal owner. We have one person from each company telling us that they are still affiliated and we have one person from each company telling us that they are no longer affiliated as of over a year ago. Since, the owner of the company I work for is pretty tight with his money is there a website free of charge that I can go to that can confirm ownerships, affiliations, subsidaries, whatever??????? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,

Secretary of State for corporate info - and you can usually find fictitious business name filings in the county they're located in. Those might provide some insight.

If the company is *not* a corporation, you may want to consider placing both firms on COD, and advise each one that they are on hold, pending receipt of an updated credit application. Whenever there is a change in ownership of any customer, you should be getting a new application immediately, so that you know who you're selling to, and so that the most current information is available for your use in the event you have to take legal action to collect.
The customer needs to realize this is *their* problem. I don't know whether the firms are similarly named, but I've seen a couple of instances where someone left their firm, and started another one with a similar name, or the same initials, in order to siphon off business from their former employer. If you make it clear to both companies that you expect them to provide the information, or else pay cash, they will find a way to clear the air.
