Recipient of the National Association of Credit Management’s 2011 O.D. Glaus Award
June 7, 2011: Columbia, Maryland—The National Association of Credit Management (NACM) honored Michael Puccinelli, CCE of Redwood City, California, as the 2011 O.D. Glaus* Credit Executive of Distinction during its 115th Annual Credit Congress and Exposition, held in Nashville, Tennessee, May 22-25.
The Glaus Award, which was previously known as the National Credit Executive of the Year Award, recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the credit profession, who upholds the tenets of lifelong learning and who is highly esteemed by his or her peers. Michael Puccinelli, the 2011 honoree, is an exemplary credit professional that has set, and reached, high standards not only for himself but for his colleagues as well.
Mr. Puccinelli has been involved in the credit field for more than 30 years, with the majority of his tenure spent in the information technology and services industry. As part of several highly innovative and forward-thinking businesses, he has worked toward re-engineering credit processes in order to capture best-in-class results. His approach has been two-pronged, focusing on credit tools and the people who use them on a day-to-day basis.
Working with his local NACM Affiliate, Credit Management Association (CMA) of Burbank, Mr. Puccinelli developed an outsource demand and collection resource called “Accel” that assisted in reducing the days sales outstanding (DSO) metric for his former employer VeriSign. It was also at VeriSign that Mr. Puccinelli spearheaded a widely admired initiative: to encourage and support his staff members in their efforts to earn NACM designations. “Continuing education culminating with a professional designation is extremely important for their self-development and to VeriSign’s objective of investing in [its] employees,” Mr. Puccinelli explained. All told, 10 of his colleagues began their professional development journey with NACM and have successfully obtained their Credit Business Associate (CBA) and Credit Business Fellow (CBF) designations.
Mr. Puccinelli is the director, revenue operations for Equinix, a company that provides state-of-the-art, high performance data centers for clients worldwide. He previously held credit management positions at VeriSign, ProBusiness and KAO Information Systems. In addition to his professional responsibilities Mr. Puccinelli has been a member of the CMA Board of Directors since 2007. He is the chairman-elect for 2011-2012 and previously served as treasurer. In 2010 Mr. Puccinelli was honored as the CMA Credit Executive of the Year. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Puccinelli also successfully completed NACM’s Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management, held on the campus of Dartmouth College.
The legacy of Mr. Puccinelli’s efforts continues to unfold through a new generation of credit professionals. “Mike Puccinelli has been and will continue to be a key player in the success and growth of my career and to the careers of others under his expert guidance,” noted Hector Benitez, CBF, Equinix credit and collection manager.

The NACM-National Honors and Awards Committee bases its awards on a scoring system that rates nominees in nearly 50 areas of professional life, including their participation in NACM activities on the local and national levels, service on local and national industry credit groups, educational attainment in the credit field, continuing education participation, professional accomplishments and dedication to the profession.
*A quintessential Southern gentleman, former NACM-National Chairman O.D. Glaus Jr., CCE of Nashville, Tennessee was an indefatigable supporter of the credit profession and lifelong learning. He earned the “father of credentialing” moniker for his efforts to establish NACM’s professional accreditation program. Mr. Glaus’ advocacy was partially a reflection of his former experience as a university instructor. “If I were going to leave a legacy to the profession, it would be learning is a never-ending process—nobody lives in a cocoon—and communicating with people, learning together and aspiring for excellence are the most important things,” Mr. Glaus once explained with subtle prescience. Upon his death in February 2010, the NACM-National Board of Directors renamed the National Credit Executive of the Year award in his honor.
