California’s unemployment rate rises to 7.3%

California’s July unemployment was the fourth highest in the nation,
tied with Illinois and trailing only Michigan with 8.5%, Mississippi
with 7.9% and Rhode Island with 7.7%.

Nearly 15,000 jobs were lost in July because of ongoing slowdowns in
construction, real estate and the financial services industries.
